Evan Almighty

Evan Almighty
By Sandor Hugert

I was a huge fan of the first movie, Bruce Almighty, but without Jim Carrey the second one had no chance of being even nearly as good as the first one. I was right; Evan Almighty wasn’t good at all. You can get over the fact that Jim Carrey didn’t come back, but this movie just wasn’t funny at all. At most I had like two or three good laughs during the movie, but that is extremely sad consider how Bruce Almighty was just hilarious. The whole Noah’s Ark plot didn’t really grab my attention at all either, just because the only laughs you get out of that is when he hits his finger with a hammer. The whole time when the animals were following him was just a bit weird. I suppose some people might find it funny how Steve Carell started looking more and more like Noah. I just taught that we have seen that type of comedy way too much before in movies such as the Santa Clause trilogy. The whole movie just wasn’t that funny. I’m just wondering how much more sequels will they make to Jim Carrey movies without actually having Jim Carrey in the sequel. There has been three movies so far: Dumb and Dumberer When Harry Met Lloyd, Son of the Mask, and Evan Almighty. These movies all did horrible at the box office, although Evan Almighty isn’t doing that bad but not nearly as good as Bruce Almighty. I did not like this movie at all, even if you enjoyed Bruce Almighty (like me) the sequel has no elements linking it to the first one.

Blades of Glory

Blades of Glory

This had to be one of the funniest movies ever made. Will Ferrel and John Heder make a great team together. I could hardly stop laughing during the entire movie. It worked so well since the two characters played totally different characters, and it was just really fun to see them try to get along with each other. The ice skating parts were absolutely hilarious especially when Will Ferrel took the ice. It’s pretty obvious that a movie like this only has good laughs, but other than that the plot was extremely weak. I don’t think many people will actually care about the plot though since they are going to be too busy laughing during the movie. There were also a few sort of creepy parts of the movie for example basically every time John Heder’s fan in the movie was on screen. Even that can be overlooked as well just because of the good comedy in this film.

This has to be one of the best movies of the year in 2007. It had a very well done story line, even though you would think that the whole movie is just pure action. Obviously all the action that you were waiting for was all there. This movie probably had some of the best action scenes ever created from any movie. The actors all did a wonderful job of portraying these warriors of Greece. This movie also had a great feel of adventure to it, which was absolutely amazing. The whole comic book look to the movie was also extremely cool. The only thing that is somewhat a flaw in the movie is that there is way too much screaming in it as the actors try to portray the characters correctly. Basically every sentence that Leonidas says, he is purely just screaming. Overall, this is an extremely good movie.

Spider-Man 3

Spider-Man 3
By Sandor Hugert

This was definitely the worst Spider-Man movie yet out of the trilogy. That does not mean that this was a bad movie at all. It was just a little overwhelming that there were way too many villains overlapping in the movie. Even though the movie is like 2 hours and 20 minutes, it still doesn’t give enough time to Sandman and Venom. Venom is actually hardly in the movie. Sandman has a good story behind him, but the whole story with Uncle Ben just doesn’t quite work that well. Harry steals this movie away as he is by far the coolest character in the movie. He has the best fight scenes and it just helps a lot that this whole fight between Peter and Harry has been building ever since the first movie. The conclusion to this movie is actually quite sad considering that really none of the characters get what they want, and it seems that the director somewhat wanted to end the Spider-Man franchise with this movie, but we all know that due to its box office success, a Spider-Man 4 is coming. The comedy is still there just like from the first two movies, but somehow this one just doesn’t flow as well as the other two. I had very big expectations for this movie, and sadly it did not deliver as well as I thought it would.

Overall: This movie is still definitely worth your time; just get your brain ready for some overwhelming material.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

This new movie about the first Marvel family created is basically just as good as the first one. It has the same amount of comedy and still a few action scenes in it. There is really nothing wrong in this movie other than at times it can be a bit too cheesy. It was also a little weird that one of the coolest Marvel villains ever created, Galactus, is portrayed as a cloud in the movie. The movie’s best element is definitely the comedy. Johnny Storm (Human Torch) and Ben Grimm (the Thing) are still extremely funny when they make fun of each other. Mr. Fantastic was the same as in the first movie, just a genius with his girlfriend. The action wasn’t all that great considering how little there was. The Fantastic 4 car was pretty cool and the special effects were perfect for it in the movie. The actors and actresses did a good job just like in the first movie. When you watch the movie, make sure to pay close attention to Stan Lee’s cameo that is extremely funny in this movie. This movie ranks somewhere at the top from all the Marvel movies, probably below Spider-Man, but maybe around the same spot as X-MEN.

Overall: This movie is definitely worth seeing even if you’re not a big fan of the first one. In my opinion, this actually might be the first really good movie of 2007.
